What Should You Do When You’re Sick?


The right approach depends on the illness and its severity.


If you have mild symptoms and feel well enough to move, gentle activity may be reasonable for some people. But if you have fever, significant fatigue, chest symptoms, difficulty breathing, dizziness, or more serious symptoms, exercising is not the time to prove your toughness.


Rest and recovery should take priority.


After an illness, return to exercise gradually rather than immediately jumping back into your previous training volume.


If symptoms are severe, persistent, or concerning, seek medical advice.


A Simple Weekly Approach


Supporting immune health through exercise doesn’t have to be complicated.


A balanced week could include:

Someone who currently does very little physical activity doesn’t need to begin with an ambitious workout program. Starting with a 10-minute walk and gradually increasing duration can be a perfectly reasonable first step.
